Hey friends,
I was shocked to discover my wife who is Mexican/Salvadorian having so much Haitian music on her iPod, and oddly enough a lot of DMX. All my life, except the last three years, I have lived in neighborhoods with a lot of Caribbean people Guyanese (not technically Caribbean) Trini, Haitian, and Jamaican. It is such a vibrant enclave linguistically, musically; it feels like another world in the city. When I went to prep school I felt so lost be many times the only black guy in the class lost in a few senses of the word. English was my third language, Kreyol and French I learned together. There is a way of seeing that comes with speaking every language. I feel like I am not really myself
I’ve been living in the Bronx and I feel isolated especially since I like to talk with the people I buy stuff from, get to know them. Sometimes chat about the politics, sports. I really miss hearing kreyol, getting some langue boeuf from the patisserie hearing dirty jokes from old Haitian men wearing cool hats. But anyways I felt like drinking some rum and dancing. Since I have work tomorrow I have decided to play really loud Haitian music at the expense of my neighbors who have been having parties nonstop, since thanksgiving. Well it feels like that long lol
Dave isn’t all seriousness. I like to have fun J maybe too much lol
Enjoy
